Applications that do not support IDNA will not be able to handle\n  domain names with non-ASCII characters, but will still be able to access such\n  domains if given the (usually rather cryptic) ASCII equivalent.\" -\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Internationalized_domain_name\">IDN entry at Wikipedia<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>In simple terms, this plugin allows one to set their blog url to an IDN.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you are interested in seeing what the PUNYCODE version of your IDN is, here is an <a href=\"http:\/\/mct.verisign-grs.com\/conversiontool\/\">online conversion tool<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>As an example:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote>\n  <p>Frau M\u00fcller has a blog and wants to use the IDN, http:\/\/www.m\u00fcller.de\n  Currently, she would have to set the WP blog url, (General Settings menu) to \n  the Punycode version: <em>xn--mller-kva.de<\/em>, (which is the ascii representation\n  of m\u00fcller.de) this would allow users using a IDN aware web browser to access \n  the site using the desired url: http:\/\/www.m\u00fcller.de\n  (and also of course, xn--mller-kva.de).<\/p>\n  \n  <p>It is more convenient for Frau M\u00fcller to use the actual IDN\n  http:\/\/www.m\u00fcller.de as the WP blog url setting (General Settings menu), \n  this plugin enables that functionality.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>There are a few caveats with using this plugin, depending on what Browser, Operating\nSystem and versions used, one can get unexpected results.<\/p>\n\n<p>Firefox &gt;= 3.*<\/p>\n\n<p>Firefox supports IDN's but maintains a 'whitelist' of 'safe' domains.\n.com, .net, .eu are not white listed for safety reasons, so IDN's on these\ndomains will display as Punycode.  <a href=\"https:\/\/support.mozilla.com\/en-US\/forum\/1\/545827\">see bug: <\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>There is an new ('experimental') Firefox add-on, \n<a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/addon\/109224\">IDN Navbar<\/a>, which\nwill enable all (whitelisted - Punycode) domains to display as IDN's. \nSo, if using Firefox and this plugin you (and your visitors) may want to install that addon.<\/p>\n\n<p>Internet Explorer &gt;= 7.*<\/p>\n\n<p>Depending on your language set up, site's that contain non 'native language'\ncharacters will display as Punycode and not the IDN. More info\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/ie\/archive\/2006\/07\/31\/684337.aspx\">msdn blogs<\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/bb250505(VS.85).aspx\">msdn libs1<\/a>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/dd565654(VS.85).aspx\">msdn libs2<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>Safari\/Opera 10.* seem to display IDN's for all domain's fine. (untested)<\/p>\n\n<h3>Arbitrary section<\/h3>\n\n<p>WP plugins have a 'stable tag' requirement for distribution, however, at this\ntime, I consider this plugin to be <strong>Beta<\/strong> quality at best.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>It is possible to lock your self out of the administrative section of your blog<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong> make sure you are using an IDN capable web browser when enabling this plugin.\n<a href=\"http:\/\/idn.icann.org\/IDN-aware_software#Browsers\">More<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong> Unfortunely, Current Firefox versions display the Punycode version and \nNOT the IDN. For more details, (and work around) see the 'Other Notes' Link \n(Arbitrary section - readme.txt)<\/p>\n\n<p>IE7\/8, Safari, Opera10 all display the actual IDN, Firefox (and Chrome)\nnavigation bar's display the IDN as Punycode. (i.e. www.xn--)<\/p>\n\n<p>There are some security issues with multi-byte chars and phishing, so this is\nMozilla's current approach, this may change in the future, as some folks are not\nhappy about it.<\/p>\n\n<p>https:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=542562\nanother related, one: https:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=354592<\/p>\n\n<p>Because this plugin effects how you access your site, installation is slightly more \ninvolved than most plugins.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you installing this plugin, I would recommend, if possible, that it is the \nfirst thing you do on your blog, before you add any content, just in case \nsomething goes wrong, this will minimize downtime.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong> If something goes wrong and you cant access the WP admin area after\nchanging your url, here are some instructions for \n<a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Changing_The_Site_URL\">resetting your url<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p><em>Please report any bugs you find to the author of this plugin<\/em><\/p>\n\n<!--section=installation-->\n<p>NOTE: This plugin requires PHP5<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>See The Notes in: 'Other Notes' below before installing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ol>\n<li><p>Point a web browser to <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/extend\/plugins\/\">WP plugins<\/a><\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Search for <strong>idna<\/strong>, download and upload to your web host.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Copy the whole <strong>idna<\/strong> directory to the <em>\/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/em> directory of your WP blog<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Access the administrative section of your WP blog. \n(In a typical default installation, WP determines your hostname and sets the WP blog url field\nto the Punycode verion of your url, so you should be able to access the administrative section \nof your WP blog using the Punycode version of the IDN) if that is not the case, you will first \nhave to set the blog Url to use the Punycode version of your IDN, so you\ncan access the administrative section to activate the plugin.<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>To get the PUNYCODE version of your IDN, here is an <a href=\"http:\/\/mct.verisign-grs.com\/conversiontool\/\">online conversion tool<\/a><\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Activate the plugin <strong>IDNA<\/strong> through the <em>Plugins<\/em> menu in WordPress<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Change your WP Url to now use your IDN<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>Navigate to General Settings menu<\/li>\n<li>set the WordPress address (URL) field to your IDN name (*)<\/li>\n<li>set the Blog address (URL) field to your IDN name<\/li>\n<li>Save Changes<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n<li><p>If something does go wrong and you get locked out of the admin section, see\nthe notes in 'Other Notes' (Arbitrary section), to regain access.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<ul>\n<li>Unfortunely, for security reasons, current Firefox versions will display the Punycode\nversion and NOT the IDN.
