## Description

**Interlink** audits how your posts link to each other, finds **orphan posts** (
published content with zero internal links pointing to it, invisible to search engines
and to readers), and suggests relevant internal links you can add with one click.

The catch that sets it apart: it is **100% self-contained and non-destructive**.
It reads only your own WordPress database, with no crawling, no external APIs and
no tracking, and it only ever turns **text that already exists** in a post into
a link. It never writes new sentences, never rewrites your content, and every suggestion
is shown for your approval before anything changes. Undo any insertion at any time.

#### Why internal linking matters

Internal links do two jobs at once. They help search engines discover and understand
how your content fits together, and they keep readers moving through your site instead
of bouncing back to the results page. Orphaned posts are the biggest and most common
gap on any site past about fifty posts, and they are almost impossible to spot by
hand, because nothing on the page tells you a post is orphaned. You have to check
every post against every other post, which is exactly the kind of job a plugin should
do.

#### A practical internal linking strategy

The workflow this plugin is built around is simple and repeatable. Run the audit
to see where you stand. Fix the orphans first, because a post with no inbound links
is the cheapest win available. Then work down the under-linked list. Mark your most
important pages as cornerstone content so future suggestions favour them. Keep an
eye on the anchor-text diversity report so your links read naturally rather than
looking optimized. Re-run it monthly, or let the scheduled weekly scan do it for
you.

#### Automatic internal linking, on your terms

Auto-link rules map a keyword to a URL and link existing occurrences across your
site, with optional **silo mode** so links only form within a shared category or
tag, and optional auto-apply whenever a post is saved. Everywhere else, suggestions
are approve-first. You get automation where automation is safe and a review step
where it is not.

#### What it does

 * **Internal link audit.** Total internal links, orphans, under-linked and well-
linked posts, and a per-post status list with recommended link counts.
 * **Orphan finder.** Lists every published post with no inbound internal links,
and helps you fix each one.
 * **Smart suggestions.** For any post, finds topically related posts by focus keyword,
title and shared categories or tags, where an existing phrase can naturally become
   a link.
 * **One-click insert, approve first.** Wraps an existing phrase in a link to the
target. Edit the anchor first if you like. **Bulk-insert** several at once.
 * **Undo.** Every inserted link is logged and can be reverted to plain text in
   one click.
 * **Broken internal-link checker.** Finds links pointing to missing, trashed or
unpublished posts. Archives are never falsely flagged.
 * **Auto-link rules** with optional silo mode and optional auto-apply on save.
 * **Anchor-text diversity report** that flags over-used anchor text so you do not
   look over-optimized.
 * **Cornerstone content.** Mark key posts so suggestions prioritize linking to
   them.
 * **Editor meta box.** See a post’s links in and out, and its status, right in
   the editor.
 * **CSV export**, **weekly scheduled scan**, **role control**, and **import/export**
   of settings.
 * **Optional AI relevance** (bring your own OpenAI or Gemini key) and **optional
Google Search Console** (your own Google app). Both are off by default and the
plugin is fully self-contained without them.

#### Works great with Rank Math

If a post has a Rank Math focus keyword, that keyword is used as the preferred anchor.
No SEO plugin is required, and it falls back to the post title.

#### Built by ReadyGo Tools

Made by [ReadyGo Tools](https://readygotools.com). If you would rather have internal
linking optimized automatically across your whole site as you publish, ReadyGo Tools
offers a managed SEO service, but this plugin is free, complete, and has no upsell
nag.

### External services

By default this plugin makes **no external requests** — all analysis runs locally
against your own WordPress database, with no tracking.

One **optional, off-by-default** feature connects to a third-party service only
if you enable it and supply your own credentials:

 * **AI relevance (optional).** If you enable it and enter your own OpenAI or Google
Gemini API key, the plugin sends the current post’s title and text plus candidate
post titles to that provider to rank internal-link suggestions. Requests go directly
from your site to the provider you chose, authenticated with your key, and only
   when you turn it on.
    - OpenAI — https://api.openai.com — Terms: https://openai.com/policies/terms-
      of-use — Privacy: https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
    - Google Gemini — https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com — Terms: https://
      ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms — Privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

If you never enable these options, the plugin remains fully self-contained.

## FAQ

### Does it change my content?

Only when you click Insert, and only by turning an existing phrase into a link.
It never adds new text, and you can undo any insertion.

### Does it make external requests or track anything?

No. It is fully self-contained — it reads only your own database and calls no outside
services.

### Why does an orphan sometimes show no suggestions?

Because no other post already contains that post’s keyword or title as plain, unlinked
text. The plugin never invents anchor text — add the phrase naturally to a related
post, then rescan.

### Does it work without an SEO plugin?

Yes. It uses a Rank Math focus keyword if present, otherwise the post title.

### Will it slow down my site?

No. It has zero front-end footprint, loads assets only on its own admin screens,
and caches the link map in a small table.

### What is the best way to improve internal linking in WordPress?

Start by finding your orphan posts, which are published pages with no internal links
pointing at them, then link to them from related content using anchor text that
already appears in the body. Interlink does both: it lists every orphan and suggests
existing phrases you can turn into links.

### Can it add internal links automatically?

Yes, in two ways. Auto-link rules map a keyword to a URL and link existing occurrences
site-wide, optionally only within a shared category or tag, and optionally on every
save. Suggestions elsewhere are always approve-first, so nothing changes without
you agreeing to it.

### Will it rewrite or generate content?

No, never. It only ever wraps text that already exists in your post. It does not
write new sentences, does not reword anything, and every insertion can be undone
in one click.

### How do I find orphan pages in WordPress?

The orphan finder lists every published post with zero inbound internal links, which
is the single most common and least visible internal-linking gap on a content site.

### Does it find broken internal links?

Yes. It checks for internal links pointing to missing, trashed or unpublished posts,
and it will not falsely flag archive pages.

### Do I need an SEO plugin for it to work?

No. If a post has a Rank Math focus keyword, that keyword is used as the preferred
anchor text. Without one it falls back to the post title.

### Does it send my content anywhere?

No. By default the plugin makes no external requests at all and analyses your own
database locally. The optional AI relevance feature only runs if you enable it and
supply your own API key.

### What is anchor text diversity and why does it matter?

Using the same anchor text for every link to a page looks manipulative to search
engines. The anchor-text diversity report flags over-used anchors so your internal
linking stays natural.

### Can I prioritise linking to my most important pages?

Yes. Mark them as cornerstone content and suggestions will favour linking to them.
